SPECIAL PROGRAMS AT DRUMMOND
SIT (School Improvement Team) - S.I.T. was established in August 2002. SIT's clear and steady focus has been on improving student achievement and supporting the Pattonville Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). The team is composed of parents and teachers and examines our current practices to determine what can be done to make Drummond a more effective place for our students to learn. School improvement team recommendations have been developed through consensus of the team with the support of the school community.
CHARACTERPLUS - The Drummond Character Committee is an extension of Pattonville's Characterplus. It works to tailor character education to the needs of Drummond students and their families through various building activities and programs. Care Team, Adopt-A-Student, Red Ribbon Week, Drummond Cares, and special Character Days are just a sampling of the special programs and activities that this committee promotes and sponsors.
DRUMMOND CARES - Drummond Cares is a program that is unique to Drummond Elementary. The Drummond Cares program is designed to help families at Drummond Elementary. Drummond Cares is supported through specialty nights throughout the community such as Drummond Elementary Night at Fortel's Pizza in Bridgeton. If you would like more information, please call one of our counselors, Ms. Robertson (ext. 2828) or Mrs.Zust (ext. 2822).
CAN FOOD DRIVE - Drummond Elementary will be collecting canned foods and non-perishable items during the month of November. The items will help fill the different food pantries and shelters in our community. If you would like to donate some items, they can be dropped off inside at the office or send them in to school with your student. Your kindness is truly appreciated!
ACCELERATED MATH - A computerized learning information system that allows teachers to work one-on-one with students as each moves ahead at their own pace.
*LIFT* - An after school program designed to assist students in overcoming barriers to academic success, increasing test scores for low-performing students and reducing drop out rates. *LIFT* provides enrichment programs for students in the core academic subjects of reading/communication arts and math and quality after school activities in a safe and secure environment.
PEGS The St. Louis Regional Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students (PEGS) provides a full-time, multi-aged, enriched and extended academic program for those highly gifted students who need an alternative to the regular classroom. This regional program was established to assist local districts in providing for the unique needs of these exceptional students. Intelligence test scores, classroom observations, performance and other indicators of exceptional giftedness are used to identify students who are eligible for the program.
DARE (Drug Resistance Education Program) - This program is used in 5th Grade to help provide students with strategies to use to avoid involvement with gangs, drugs, and violence.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT - An economic education program for 5th Grade that provides hands-on experiences. Students prepare for a real-life simulation through classroom instruction on economics, banking, quality business jobs, salaries, and much more. Students then visit JA Enterprise Village to demonstrate their knowledge and bring the concepts to "real life".
JUNIOR PALS - 5th grade Jr. PALS are a group of students that do service projects throughout the year to help Drummond Elementary and its community. These select students are chosen based on their personal character traits, academic achievement, and leadership abilities. Jr. Pals do many things to promote good personal and work ethics: assist classroom teachers, mentor younger students, assist with the Adopt-A-Family program during the holiday season, and most importantly represent the very best of Drummond Elementary.
5TH GRADE CAMP - Drummond Elementary participates in the Pattonville Outdoor Education Program (5th Grade Camp). Drummond Elementary usually partners with another Pattonville Elementary and the students from both schools make new friends during the week. Hats off to the staff for their hard work and dedication to ensure a successful, safe, and fun camp for our 5th grade students!
RED RIBBON WEEK - Observed at Drummond Elementary during a week in October. This week is filled with different activities that focus on teaching our kids to say "NO TO DRUGS!"
MULTICULTURAL FAMILY MEETINGS - Monthly meetings for our international families to assist them in adjusting to life in St. Ann, Missouri. Each meeting has different visitors/speakers to answer any questions that our families may have. Past speakers have included community resources like the police and fire departments, school social worker, etc.
MOMS FOR MUFFINS AND READING- We encourage all moms to join us for a breakfast of muffins and juice with their children! Breakfast is served in the multipurpose room, followed by a trip back to the classroom for reading by any moms able to stay until 9:30. We look forward to seeing all of our wonderful moms on this special day!
DADS FOR DONUTS AND READING - This exciting event is for our students to invite their dad, grandfather, or guardian to breakfast at Drummond. The breakfast will include doughnuts, coffee, juice, and milk with your child. Once you have completed your breakfast you are invited to return to your child’s classroom to read with him/her until 9:30. We look forward to seeing you there.
